Hey everyone, we are writing this blog to give quick and useful tips to anyone who is interested in getting a photo shoot done. It might be your Pre-Wedding Shoot, Modeling Portfolio or just a fun shoot with friends. Preparing for a Fashion Photoshoot needs little attention to be paid.
Firstly, introducing ourselves – we are two bloggers running a fashion and lifestyle blog called ‘Into Two’ and part of this profession requires getting shoots done almost twice a week. I’m sure a lot of people think that getting shoots done is just the responsibility of the photographer. Photographers are kind of magicians. They can transform the way you look on camera. They understand lighting, angles and what colors work well with each other. But, if the model is not well prepared, then even the photographer can’t do much.
When we initially started our blog, we too were completely intimidated by the camera. I still remember our first shoot – we had no clue what makeup was to be worn for a shoot or what expressions to give! But, we learned with time and experience.
Preparation for a shoot starts way before the shoot actually begins. A day before, it is advisable to detox your body. Drink a lot of fluids like water, green tea and coconut water. Also, avoid consumption of oily or salty food as it gives an unpleasant appearance to the face. If it is a location shoot, pack your bags with all the necessities one day prior. You want to make sure you don’t forget anything important.
Your bag essentials include all your outfits, makeup, wet wipes, a change of clothes, a bottle of water, comfortable footwear (you don’t want to walk around in 5-inch heels all day). Even if you have a make-up artist and hairstylist working for you, it is still advisable to carry your own make-up.
Coming to the make-up artists and hairstylists, make sure you have tried their work. It shouldn’t be a surprise on the day of the shoot. In case, you are not opting for a professional make-up artist, make sure you only wear matte lipsticks. Also, use compact or pressed powder on your face or else, the face ends up looking oily and shiny.
Always choose clothes you are comfortable in. In case you have a stylist for the shoots, make sure you tell them what you are comfortable in and what you’re not. If you’re wearing open-toed footwear, ensure that you’re feet are pedicured, because, trust me, the camera captures everything.
Now is the time when you’re actually getting clicked. Always stick to being yourself. Don’t try to give expressions that are not you. If you are a fun-loving person, smile, laugh and be playful. If it is a couple shoot or two friends are having a fashion shoot – INTERACT! People love to see chemistry.
DO NOT go for a two digits game shoot while nursing a hangover. It will reflect badly in your pictures. And lastly, always remember to have fun. Love the camera and just have a blast.
